Bengaluru: 19-year-old youth drowns in Bagalur Lake
Bengaluru: A 19-year-old youth drowned in Bagalur Lake on Tuesday after he went for a swim along with his friends to beat the heat. The deceased, Avinash Gowda, was a second-year PU student and a resident of Horamavu Agara, the police said.
Avinash and two of his friends, who have summer holidays, went to the lake around 4-4.30 pm when Avinash lost his footing on the rocks, slipped and drowned. His two friends tried to catch Avinash, but could not reach him.
They ran to the local residents, who were fishing nearby, and sought help. But by the time they reached the spot, Avinash had drowned. The local residents informed the police and Fire and Emergency Services, who rushed to the spot.
The rescue workers had to use flashlights as it grew dark by the time they started the search operation and called it off by 11 pm. They resumed operation on Wednesday morning and fished the body out around 9 am on Wednesday and shifted it to B.R. Ambedhkar Hospital for the postmortem, the police said.
