I was called brownie in the US: Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra’s next international outing will be as the lead in ABC’s Quantico, in which she plays an FBI agent. She is also thrilled! “I was shocked when I received the offer. The show will be telecast all over the world, to approximately 180 countries including India,” says Priyanka, when asked about her reaction.
“When artistes and stars from all over the world meet me and greet me I do feel nice. Our films have travelled all over the world and this is indeed a fact to feel proud about. The power of Hindi cinema is widely known,” she adds.
And talking about prejudices she faced in the US early in her life, the actress reveals, “I had faced a lot of problems while I was studying in America… I was called ‘brownie’. They also criticised Indian mannerisms and would also constantly laugh at them. So, when I was approached to do this show, I told them I should be treated as an actor… If my Indianess is respected I do not mind exploring this option.
“I am treated like everyone else and I am proud about it but at the same time I am also extremely nervous. But at the same time, I am sure opportunities will increase as we will now not be offered only stereotype roles. Also, in today’s age of social media, we read about everyone and know about people working all over the World. The world has definitely become smaller. Directors, artistes and technicians need to be treated on par with their profession.”
Closer home, Priyanka’s next is Dil Dhadhakne Do in which she plays Ranveer Singh’s sister. Ironically, Ranveer and her play husband and wife in Baji Rao Mastani.
