I don't consider myself a star, but an achiever: Priyanka Chopra
Mumbai: Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra says she does not consider herself a star, but an achiever. In her 13-year-long career, Priyanka, who has seen highs and lows in the industry, said she wants to do good quality work and entertain the audience.
"I don't think any one person is at the top alone. There is no top in the movie business. There is no number one slot, every Friday changes... Every movie changes one's position in the industry. I believe I am among the top five actors," Priyanka told PTI.
"There is no sense of satisfaction and if that happens then I will quit. I don't think I am satisfied; I feel there is so much more to do. I don't set benchmark for myself. I don't consider myself as a star or actor, I consider myself as an achiever, I want to achieve the best in whatever I do," she said.
According to Priyanka, the three achievements of her life are - becoming Miss India, Miss World at the age of 17 understanding that she can act and then taking up music as it was her father's dream. The actress is also excited about her next release "Dil Dhadakne Do" in which she plays the role of Ayesha. "I had finished Mary Kom and after ten days I started shooting for this film. I had to go on a crash diet for this film as Ayesha is completely feminine, completely opposite of Mary Kom," she said.
"I have always played strong characters, while in real life I am feminine and I never got to play this part. I just fell for Ayesha. Her character is just like me...except that I am outspoken," she said.
In the film, her parents, played by Anil Kapoor and Shefali Shah, tell her to compromise on her marriage and Priyanka insists that "love" is an important factor in marriage and there is no compromise on that. "In the film, I don't love my husband and that alone is not the reason for my parents for me to leave the marriage. It is about the mentality that Indian families have. Whether it is love or arranged marriage you have to love your partner. I feel if you are not in love with your partner, then how do you stay with him?" Priyanka said.
"If I get married... whenever I get married I am not of that belief that if there is one fight with your partner, you leave him and go. I believe love sustains a lot of problems. As long as there is love you can overcome anything, if that is not there, then there is no point in living the life based on compromise," she said.
The actress-singer, who has lent her voice for the film, says the idea of her singing a song just happened. "A creative person will have three-four avenues. For me it is in acting, writing, producing and singing. The decision of me singing in this film just happened at a party. The song is not modelled on anyone, I have sung it for everyone," Priyanka said. "I would love to sing for another actress...it is my next dream. But I will have to change my voice, as my voice is unique. So it will be hard for me to do it," she said.
The film also stars Ranveer Singh, Farhan Akhtar, Anil Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Shefali Shah and others.
For Priyanka working in an ensemble film was great fun. "In such films the entire pressure is not on you alone. The pressure is less, as there are other actors also in the film. The only people who had difficulty were our director Zoya Akhtar and producer Riteish Sidhwani," she added.
The film is scheduled for release on 5 June.
