THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury has said that many of the organisational issues pertaining to the state unit being raised by Opposition leader V. S. Achuthanandan are old.
He told reporters in Chennai that most of these had been discussed by the party in the past. The CPM leader said that the state unit of the party was capable of resolving organisational issues.
It will take decisions at the appropriate time, he added. Mr Yechury was responding to queries of media persons regarding the running battle between Mr Acuthanandan and state leadership of the party.
Achuthanandan had recently come out openly against the state leadership for portraying the recent contest in the secretariat as factionalism and accusing him of instigating factional feud in the party.
Besides, he had also raised allegations against central committee member Elamaram Kareem, demanding a probe into the corruption allegations associated with Malabar Cements.
This had resulted in the party state secretariat coming out with a resolution criticising the "anti-party" approach of the veteran leader. The party leadership made it clear that it would not entertain any attempt to form a separate outfit by breaking the CPM in the state.
While Mr Achuthanandan is lying low for the moment, the CPM state and central leadership is wary of his next move especially in view of the crucial Aruvikkara bypoll in June, local bodies elections in September and the all-important assembly elections early next year.
However, the leadership has made it clear that despite serious differences with Achuthanandan on various issues, he would not be removed from the post of Opposition leader, at least for now.
