VS Achuthanandan opposes probe into report leak

The Opposition leader demanded immediate withdrawal of the decision

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan has slammed home minister Ramesh Chennithala’s decision to probe the alleged leakage of lie detection test report of Biju Ramesh’s driver Ambili. In a statement on Tuesday, he said the probe was aimed at demoralising the Vigilance officers conducting the investigation into the bribery charges against finance minister K M Mani.

He warned the government against any move to dilute the probe saying such a step would only invite the wrath of the people.

Mr Achuthanandan said similar leaks had occurred in the past as well and the media discussed them widely. So there was nothing new in it. However, the home minister's decision smacked of a conspiracy to derail the probe.

"This is totally unacceptable. Had the report been favourable to Mr Mani, the same government would have gone to the town claiming clean chit for the tainted minister,” he said. The Opposition leader demanded immediate withdrawal of the decision.
