South Western Railway to lay 73 km of new track this fiscal

Bengaluru: The South Western Railway (SWR) has stated that it would operationalise 146 kilometre long tracks this fiscal and passenger amenities at Bangalore City and Cantonment station will be improved.
SWR General Manager P.K. Saxena said out of 146 kilometres, 73 kilometre of tracks would be new lanes, while the rest would be as part of track doubling works. Last year 51 kilometre long new tracks and 38 kilometre doubling works were operationalised.
Four major track doubling works would be taken in the next five years. It includes Yelahanka- Penukonda (120.55km), Hubbali-Chikka Jajoor (190 km), Arasikere- Tumakuru (96 km) and Meeraj-Londa (186 km).
“In this year's railway budget Rs 84 crore is allocated to the SWR for providing better passenger amenities. Out of this Rs 35 crore has been allocated to Bengaluru division.
