Hyderabad: Hyderabad needs 602 million gallons of water every day, but gets 385 MGD, resulting in a shortage of drinking water in several areas. This was stated by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao during an interaction on Swachh Hyderabad with ministers, MPs, legislators and officials.
Mr Rao told the meeting that the government was taking all measures to get 45 MGD from Krishna and 72 MGD of water from Godavari. “Out of 20 lakh houses, 14 lakh houses get water,” he said.
Asking the Water Board to ensure supply of drinking water to municipalities that were merged with Hyderabad at the earliest, Mr Rao said the government has taken up Rs 3,100 crore works in this regard.
“The Water Board should supply drinking water to every home. We will take projects to provide water soon. Hyderabad does not have a proper drinking water network and drainage system,” he said. The CM decided to constitute a special committee to study the city’s drinking water needs.
