KOZHIKODE: AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday stepped up attack on the Modi government saying the modified Land Bill presented an opportunity for the "biggest corruption" in the country.
Addressing a Youth Congress rally here, he warned the BJP government that people would not allow it to "celebrate five birthdays" if it behaved like this.
“I wish the suit boot government a happy birthday..but unfortunately the celebration is only for friends of the government,” Gandhi said adding the Bill was for the benefit of two or three corporates personally close to the PM.
“The biggest lie being told to the youths in the country is that there are no jobs because there are no lands to begin new projects. This is the biggest propaganda to take away the land from the poor farmers. The biggest corruption that the country is going to witness is that the land of the poor will be taken away without any records”.
Gandhi said Modi came to power using the generous funds provided by his friends for large scale publicity campaign. “So he cannot betray the corporates who had funded him. So they propose a biggest lie that the hurdle in their Make in India campaign is the lack of availability of land. However, the finance ministry to a query had clarified that only eight per cent of the projects had been stopped due to non availability of land.” he said.
Contrary to the claims of the Modi government, he said, the employment opportunities in the country had dropped by a 30 percent and the prices of the essentials have been sky-rocketing.
Mr Gandhi, who is visiting the coastal town of Chavakkad in Thrissur on Wednesday to meet anglers, criticized the Modi government for "trying to take away the sea from the fishermen".
He ridiculed Mr Modi's foreign trips saying the PM would be talking more about foreign countries than India as he had been spending more time abroad.
He reached the venue from Kozhikode Airport and was accompanied by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, home minister Ramesh Chennithala, senior Congress leader A K Antony and KPCC president V M Sudheeran.
