Narendra Modi pens opens letter to citizens enlisting achievements of the Centre

Modi also said people’s expectations are “high” and there is “much more to be done”
New Delhi: With the “Modi sarkar”completing one year in power, the government on Tuesday unleashed a massive publicity blitz across the nation. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote a letter to the nation listing the government’s achievements, all top leaders —ranging from BJP president Amit Shah and Union home minister Rajnath Singh to other Union ministers, MPs and MLAs — held rallies, meetings and press conferences across the country to talk about “achche din”.
Vying with Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Union HRD minister Smriti Irani took the battle straight to his home turf, Amethi. In a move to keep Mr Gandhi confined to Amethi, Ms Irani described the people of Amethi as “mera parivar (my family)”. On the occasion of the first anniversary of his government, the Prime Minister also met President Pranab Mukherjee and vice-president Hamid Ansari and interacted with PMO officials and said his experience had been that “government functionaries and the common man think alike, and, if given the right atmosphere, the government machinery can deliver results for the common man.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said people’s expectations are “high” and there is “much more to be done” as he listed the work done over the last one year, ranging from “rejuvenating” the economy to initiatives for the poor. BJP president Amit Shah, who addressed the media on the occasion, described the NDA government as a “visible, pro-active and corruption-free” government, unlike the previous UPA regime. However, when asked about his party’s plans on its core issues, like a Ram temple at Ayodhya and Article 370 of the Constitution, given that the saffron party now has a majority, Mr Shah said they required 370 MPs, a two-thirds majority, to implement them.
“We still do not have the majority needed for (executing) core issues,” Mr Shah said. Hitting out at Narendra Modi government over the land acquisition Bill, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi termed as the ‘biggest lie’ that non-availability of land was a major impediment for undertaking development projects.
“The government is linking the land to ‘Make-in-India’ programme,” he said addressing a huge rally of Youth Congress workers at Kozhikode beach.
Mr Gandhi alleged that the NDA government ‘due to some reason’ was in a hurry to bring in the Bill. He also attacked the government’s claim of eliminating corruption, saying that the main institutions — RTI and CVC remained headless for last one year.
Government now visible: Amit Shah
NDA government is “visible” and pro-active unlike the previous regime, BJP Chief Amit Shah on Tuesday said, affirming that its one year rule has brought the country out of policy paralysis, ended corruption and trust deficit and restored the dignity of Prime Minister’s office.
Listing out initiatives taken in the past year, he said Narendra Modi government has strengthened the federal structure, improved India’s position abroad and is committed to bring back the black money as it takes the nation forward on the path of speedy progress.
“This is a visible government unlike the previous regime which would not be seen anywhere. We have also restored the dignity of the Prime Minister's office. This government has come out of policy paralysis. The trust deficit is now over and the world is acknowledging India’s progress.
“We had pledged to eliminate corruption and we have provided a corruption-free regime. Our opponents are not able to make any allegation on corruption. I feel this is a big achievement of this government,” he said addressing a press conference.
Attacking the Cong-ress, he dared its leaders to present their “zero-loss theory” on allocation of coal and spectrum auctions again before the public, alleging that “UPA has mastered the art of presenting a lie as truth”. “What has Congress done to stop blackmoney in 60 years of its rule since independence,” he questioned.
“No one will be spared and that is why a new law for unaccounted money stashed abroad has been brought by this government. I can assure you that no money will go out of this country henceforth,” he said.
