Investigation reveal that the head constable had worked with a Tiruchy based gang

Chennai: A head constable who allegedly forged the signature of the inspector of Anna Square Police station while issuing a ‘non-traceable certificate’ in a case relating to missing of passport, was placed under suspension on Tuesday. Police sources gave the name of the constable as Sukumar of Kasimedu, working as a writer in the crime wing. Investigation revealed that the head constable along with another policeman from the intelligence wing had worked with a Tiruchy based gang which wanted to get a new passport.

“The gang was in need of two passports and they approached the police station with a missing complaint. The complainants stated that they were on their way to the Madras University when they lost their bag containing the passport, “ said a senior police officer.The sources said the gang had confided with the writer about their issue following which Sukumar helped them get the certificate by forging the inspector’s signature.

The constable’s act came to light when passport officials verified the number of the missing passports and found that they were non-existent. The passport officials alerted the police commissioner’s office following which an investigation began.“We have to trace the five-member gang from Tiruchy which is now absconding,” said a police officer.
