Gales, use of ACs led to tripping
In Krishna district, power consumption has increased up to 14.5 million
Vijayawada: Strong winds and increasing power consumption led to frequent breakdown of power supply in various districts across Andhra Pradesh in the last few days.
This summer, the sales of AC units has increased in Krishna and Guntur districts. According to reports, nearly 24 breakdowns were registered in Krishna district, two days ago. Similarly, 20 breakdowns were registered in Guntur district.
Nearly 100 breakdowns were registered against the 10,681 total feeders under the Southern Power Distribution Company of AP Limited which supplies electricity to Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor, Kadapa, Anantapur and Kurnool districts.
However, only 35 breakdowns were registered against the total of 3,075 feeders under the Eastern Power Distribution Company of AP Limited which cater to the needs of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari districts. Consumption of power has gone up significantly in the last few days due to the severe heatwave conditions.
It was recorded at 6.5 million units a day against a summer average consumption of 4.5 million units a day. In Krishna district, power consumption has increased up to 14.5 million units against an average of 11 million units a day.
APSPDCL Krishna district superintending engineer B. Mohana Krishna said the strong winds led to breaking of branches which fell on power lines and disrupted power supply. According to reports, nearly 2,400 AC units were sold in the last one week. The unexpected surge in power consumption also hit the power supply system and feeders. “Several new sub-stations and transformers have been set up before summer this year. Else, the supply of power would have been worse,” he added.
