Remand prisoners create ruckus in jail
They refused to attend court on Tuesday morning stating that they were afraid of being killed
Hyderabad: Remand prisoners at the Cherlapally jail, including those involved in terror cases, apparently refused to attend court on Tuesday morning stating that they were afraid of being killed by the escort cops en route to the court.
The team of police escorts, who were to take five suspects involved in the Dilsukhnagar blast case to the court, thus returned from the jail empty handed. Jail authorities meanwhile denied this and stated that one of the prisoners, Waqas, a Pakistani national who is accused in the blast case, fell ill and the entire group was thus not taken to court.
The terror suspects in the jail have also apparently complained about being lodged in segregated cells in the high security barrack. Refuting allegations that the prisoners had expressed fears of being “encountered”, Cherlapally jail full additional-charge superintendent Y. Rajesh said, “The remand prisoners were suffering from dehydration due to the heat. They expressed their inability to travel, and one of them, a Pakistani national, fell sick. The same was informed to the court concerned. They were asked to be produced on the next date. We will produce them (in court) after 14 days.”
However, a prison official on condition of anonymity said, “They were apprehensive that something would happen to them." The accused include Yasin Bhatkal, Tehseen Akthar, Asadullah, Waqas and Shaik Aizaz. Meanwhile, Counter Intelligence officials of Telangana police alerted jail authorities that the terror suspects may plan to escape from jail or on their way to the court.
“Since the encounter killing of the Viquaruddin gang, the terror suspects are afraid. They don’t want to be confined in the high security barrack," said a jail official.
