Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan made headlines when it was reported that the duo was cast in Vishal Bhardwaj’s next. The Haider director has now found his leading lady for the film. Kangana Ranaut has been cast in the film, which has been titled Rangoon, and is said to be a Casablanca-style love triangle. The film is also said to be a musical and will be set in the times of the second World War.
Vishal will be working with Sajid Nadiadwala for the first time, who is producing the film. “It’s my most expensive film to date and will be my most musical,” says Vishal.
Talking about the subject, he explains how it will be an eye-opener on a chapter of history that many people are completely unaware of. “If you visit a cemetery in Imphal, Manipur, you will see the graves of so many young soldiers who lost their lives in the second World War. And the dark irony is that Indians were killing Indians because some of these soldiers fought for the British army against Subhash Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army in Rangoon,” he explains,
The director had the subject with him for a while and he has been working on the script, waiting for the right cast. Vishal has worked with both Saif and Shahid in the past, but this will be his first film with Kangana. She was reportedly the director’s first choice for the film, which will be largely a musical.
He adds, “I’m looking forward to reuniting with Saif and Shahid, who I’ve worked with earlier in Omkara, Kaminey and Haider. And Kangana with whom it’ll be a first.”
We can’t wait to see what magic Vishal brings on the big screen with the star cast.
