Xiaomi Mi 4i gets OTS update, heating issues to be resolved
Xiaomi launched the Mi 4i in India late April, and the handset is a premium looking smartphone with a low price tag of Rs 12,999. However, users found that the Mi 4i was overheating while using the camera and after a while of gaming. The issue was noted with the way the MIUI software handles the processor frequencies and voltages, which causes the overheating after intense gaming and extended use.
Xiaomi has announced that the device has now received a major OTA update on the firmware front with version v6.5.5.0 rolled out on May 25. Users can check this update in the settings and apply the new firmware update.
Xiaomi’s Hugo Barra stated that ‘We’ve heard from some Mi 4i users that their devices can get warm under more strenuous conditions such as complex 3D gaming for extended periods of time. To address these concerns, we’ve optimized our thermal control algorithms to better regulate the temperature. The new thermal controls adjust frequency, voltage and the number of cores in use depending on the chipset temperature.’
He also mentioned that the pre-OTA release was tested internally on the MIUI forum and with beta testers to confirm that the heating issues are reduced, without impacting the performance. The new update carries some bug fixes and optimizations.
