Mehdi Masroor Biswas to be charged for waging war against friendly country

The central government has given its nod to the city police to charghesheet

Bengaluru: The central government has given its nod to the city police to charghesheet pro-Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) twitter handler Mehdi Masroor Biswas under Section 125 of the Indian Penal Code for waging war against an Asiatic power in alliance or at peace with the government of India.

The police have now sought the state government sanction to chargesheet Mehdi, who was arrested on December 13 last year after he was outed by UK’s Channel 4, which was tracking his pro-ISIS tweets and had exposed him in a covert interview.

“The Centre has given its approval to chargesheet Mehdi under Section 125 of the IPC. We have now sought the state government’s sanction. It is a mandatory requirement. Once the government sanctions, we will submit the chargesheet in the designated court,” said an official source.

Mehdi was arrested under Sections 18 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Section 125 IPC and Section 66 of the Information Technology Act.
