NEW DELHI/THIRUVANANTHAPURAM/KOCHI: Kerala students have cornered the glory in the CBSE class XII results which were declared on Monday. Thiruvanathapuram region recorded the highest pass percentage of 95.41 while the overall pass percentage is 82 which is slightly lower than last year’s 82.70. Girls fared better than boys with 87.56 percent girls and 77.77 per cent boys passing.
M. Gayatri of New Green Fields School, New Delhi, is the topper in the country securing 99.2 per cent, and the second rank-holder is B. Arjun of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram. Gayatri scored 496 marks out of 500. Arjun shared the second place with Mythili Mishra of Amity School, Noida.
They scored 495 marks out of 500, just one mark behind that of Gayatri who pursued the commerce stream.
As many as 37,500 students from Thiruvananthapuram region comprising Kerala and Lakshadweep appeared for the exam.
Arjun, younger son of former Navy commander Balgovind Kunjuraman and Sujatha, wishes to pursue computer science from IIT. He secured 911 marks in state engineering entrance and is awaiting the results of many other exams. “I hoped for 95 to 96 percent marks, but never expected an all-India second rank,” said Arjun.
Gayatri's father, S. Mohan, from Tamil Nadu had earlier studied in Thiruvananthapuram for many years and stayed at Karamana during the 1980s.
He is now working with the rural development department. Gayatri wishes to pursue CA. Many schools in the state recorded 100 percent pass.
The results of the CBSE tenth-standard are expected to be announced on Wednesday. Ms Indira Rajan, general secretary of the Kerala CBSE School Management Association, lauded the success of the Thiruvananthapuram region.
“This is the result of the dedicated effort of the students who decided to stay with the CBSE stream despite the incentives offered by the state stream. Hats off to them and the teachers and managements of the schools for the wonderful performance,” said Indira Rajan.
In all, 10,40,368 candidates had registered for the class XII examination, an increase of about 1.2 per cent over that of last year. Photocopies of the evaluated answer sheets will be provided to the candidates who have applied for verification of marks. Applications will be accepted by the board from June 13 to June 17, the CBSE said in a statement.
The re-evaluation of answer books will be available for subjects such as English Core, English Elective (NCERT), English Elective (CBSE), Hindi Core, Hindi Elective, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Business Studies, Economics and Accountancy. The compartmental examination will be held on July 16, 2015.
