IG Jose says copying case framed by cops, varsity staff
KOTTAYAM: Thrissur Range IG T J Jose on Monday deposed before the MG University panel probing copying charges against him that it was a conspiracy involving some police officers and the university staff.
He allegedly cheated in the LLM improvement exam at the St Paul’s College, Kalamassery, in Ernakulam.
“The IG said he never attempted copying. He said he left the exam hall early as he doesn’t know the answers of some questions. He also alleged that some officials hatched a conspiracy,” a subcommittee member told Deccan Chronicle on condition of anonymity.
During the hearing that lasted for two hours, he told the committee that some officials incriminated by his report as an investigating officer in a particular case hatched the conspiracy.
However, sources said he could not prove his allegations. On the basis of the new allegations, the subcommittee decided to summon A C Babu, deputy registrar of the university who reported the alleged cheating to the vice-chancellor, to appear on June 2.
The panel had on May 22 taken statements of 11 persons who wrote the exam along with him. It will submit its findings by June 15.
Panel members Prof C H Abdul Latif, Prof Satheesh Kochuparambil, Prof C V Thomas, Dr N Jayakumar, Prof K V Narayan Kurup, P K Firoz and Dr R Vijayakumar were present at the sitting.
