CM Oommen Chandy gives nod for 15 projects in Kottayam
Kottayam: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Monday gave his approval for 15 emergency projects to be implemented in the district.
Speaking at a mass contact programme here, Chandy said he was accepting the proposed projects, including a skywalk in the town, ‘waste-free Kottayam’, a sports institute at Chingavanam, a new building for the Kottayam general hospital and the widening of the Kottayam-Kurichy road to four lanes.
Transport and sports minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan presided the inaugural function. Hundreds of people thronged the Nehru Stadium at Nagampadom from morning to redress their grievances at the mass contact programme.
Speaking at the function, finance minister K. M. Mani said that justice delayed is justice denied, and justice should be delivered to the needy in a swift and speedy way. Public relations minister K. C. Joseph, Anto Antony MP and Jose K. Mani MP were also present.
Those who came to meet the CM included Mary, wife of Pontanathu Joseph Abraham, and sons Jose and Joby, who were differently gifted.
The chief minister met 94 of the 100 persons who registered first for the programme. The other six did not turn up. By the time this report went to press, the chief minister had received 12,948 petitions.
The CM granted Rs 25,000 in financial assistance for the treatment of 53 persons.
