Mother and son hacked to death in Bengaluru
BENGALURU: Three armed men barged into a house and hacked a woman and her son to death at Mangammanapalya in Madiwala police limits on Monday morning. The police suspect a property dispute behind the murders.
The deceased have been identified as Asmath Taj (36), wife of late Irfan Ullah – a political party worker, and their 16-year-old-son Ruman Ullah, a school dropout. At the time of the attack, Asmath’s 13-year-old daughter was not at home.
A neighbour, who heard loud screams from Asmath’s house, alerted the police, who rushed with dog and forensic squads. The police found Asmath and Ruman lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab injuries.
During the preliminary investigation, the police learnt that Irfan, Asmath’s husband, died after a cardiac arrest in January this year, but some members of his family suspected Asmath’s hand behind his death. Asmath’s in-laws accused her of having an illicit affair and murdering Irfan, who ran a meat shop near the City Market. After Irfan’s death, his brother Ayaan was managing the shop, the police said.
Two months ago, Asmath wanted her share of the property from her husband, and laid claim to the house they were living in, two plots of land and the shop, in all worth over Rs 10 crore.
But Ayaan was opposed to her claims and the two fought frequently over the issue. The police suspect that this issue may have led to the murders. Ms Rohini Katoch Sepat, DCP, South-East said, “We have got some clues and are investigating. We are also verifying the backgrounds of both families.”
