Kamal keeps Tollywood vow
The versatile Kamal Haasan opens up about his upcoming Telugu film Cheekatti Raajyam. Speaking about the project Kamal Haasan says, “It is a bi-lingual film, which will be made in both Tamil and Telugu.
The Tamil title is Thoongavanam which means sleepless jungle, while the Telugu title is Cheekati Raajyam which translates into the kingdom of darkness. It is a fast-paced thriller which takes place in the screen time of one day and a night. It stars Trisha, Prakash Raj and myself.”
Reminiscing about his association with the Telugu film industry Kamal Haasan says, “My first Telugu film, the record-breaking Maro Charitra, paved the way for the Hindi film Ek Duuje Ke Liye. I have done fewer films in Telugu, compared to Tamil, but have a 90 per cent hit average.”
He speaks fondly of the great bond he shares with Telugu audiences. “The Telugu audience has given me a lot of love and support, despite the long gap between projects in Telugu. There were vociferous demands by loving admirers on a few television show interactions that I come to Andhra and Telangana and do a Telugu film.
I promised them I will soon come up with a project, and I am keeping my promise.” Speaking of the film’s director, Kamal says, “My assistant director for seven years Rajesh M. Selva is directing this film.”
