Two Amma canteens opened in kovai
Coimbatore: The launch of populist welfare schemes picked up pace once again in Tamil Nadu with Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa opening government run canteens in Coimbatore on Sunday. The canteens, which have come up at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) and Kovaipudur, were foamrlly inaugurated by the CM through a video conference from Chennai.
The ‘Amma Unavagam’ at CMCH has been built in an area of 144.29 sq mts at an cost of Rs 43.90 lakhs, while the one in Kovaipudur in ward 90 has come up in an area of 298.92 sq mts at a cost of Rs 30 lakhs.
The canteens have been built with all modern facilities including a kitchen, stock rooms, water tanks, purified drinking water and toilet facilities. Thousands of out-patients and poor people visiting the CMCH will benefit with the easy availability of quality food within the hospital premises. Corporation Mayor P Rajkumar, in the presence of District Collector Archana Patnaik served food to visitors at the canteens after they were opened by the Chief Minister.
