RPF man killed in brickbatting by hawkers in West Bengal
Malda: An RPF personnel was killed and three more were injured when angry hawkers allegedly attacked Railway Protection Force office in Malda station premises today after one of them was barred from doing business.
The incident took place after an RPF team asked a hawker not to sell wares at the entrance to the station, but as the hawker protested the personnel beat him up, the police said.
Following this, a large group of hawkers barged into the office of RPF located near the station and started brickbatting, prompting a panicked RPF jawan to fire from his rifle, they said.
The angry hawkers then threw a barrage of stones at the victim, identified as S Samanta, killing him on the spot.
As huge tension prevailed in and around the station, a team of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) was deployed in the station and its surrounding area. A contingent of the Government Railway Police was also stationed.
