Operation Late Night Roam-Yos: 100 detained in Hyderabad's old city area

The youths were counselled in the presence of their families and let off

Hyderabad: Operation Late Night Roam-Yos (Roaming Youth), a special drive by the south zone police, continued for the second day in the old city on Sunday. About 105 youths including 15 minors were detained while roaming late in the night on the streets. The police move was launched after a street fight in which a minor was killed recently.

The youths were counselled in the presence of their families and let off. Officials said the drive would continue for a fortnight and warned youngsters not to roam on the streets late at night.

Early on Sunday special teams from all the 17 police stations in south zone searched for wandering youths. The teams intercepted youths in Chandrayangutta, Chatrinaka, Falaknuma, Kanchanbagh, Moin Bazaar and various other places. They were all brought to the Basheera Function Hall at Falaknuma and counselled in the presence of their families.

“We brought the youths for counselling. We called their families and they were counselled in the presence of their parents and siblings. The youths were made to take an oath. Their parents promised to monitor their wards,” said south zone additional DCP Babu Rao.

Police said that after counselling if youngsters are found roaming on the streets criminal action will be taken. “For now our focus is on creating awareness. If there is no change in their behaviour the youths will be booked as per law and in the case of minors action will be initiated against parents,” the DCP said.

During Operation Roam-Yos on Saturday about 282 youths were caught from various areas in the old city. They were counselled in the presence of their parents and let off.
