AR Rahman’s apprentice makes his solo debut

Santhosh says he’s not nervous making his debut in this film

Debutant music director Santhosh Kumar Dayanidhi, is all smiles because he got to score the music for the Santhanam-starrer Inimey Ippadithaan. Santhosh says that his lessons with AR Rahman have helped groom him into a full-fledged musician. From Kadal to Lingaa, I did keyboard programming for Rahman sir for three years and studied music in his school. Every session that I had with him was a big lesson. Rahman helped me understand the technique of using songs to create background music, says Santhosh. Asked if he had played his songs for Rahman, he smiles and says that sir is not in Chennai. “By the time sir comes to the city, the film would have been released in theatres.”

So, how did Inimey Ippadithaan happen? “When I was working with Rahman sir, I happened to meet people from Sony. One of my friends, Kaushik, who works for Sony, referred my name to Santhanam, when he was in search of a new music director for his film. I was glad that I accepted the offer,” Santhosh beams.

Although this is his debut as a music director in Kollywood, Santhosh has already composed music for many jingles, besides the ad for Bigg Boss Season 8. Santhosh says he’s not nervous making his debut in this film. “Santhanam plays the hero and that itself is a big thing. I couldn’t have asked for a better start,”he says.

“Santhanam let me do whatever I wanted to. He gave the confidence that I could do good work. When he signed me on, he didn’t even hear the demo,” he adds.

So, is there any influence of AR Rahman’s music in his? “That, I don't know. The audience can decide after listening to my songs,” signs off Santhosh, candidly.
