Google search to feature tweets

Live tweets and trends will now show up on the google search timeline

Google and Twitter have teamed up to display Tweets and Trends from the social media network on topics you look up on the search engine. The update will be available simultaneously on Android browsers and Apple’s iOS. This also makes it easier to catch up on live Twitter updates, hashtags, etc. The updates will show up in boxes in the search results on Google itself.

“It’s a great way to get real-time info when something is happening. It’s another way for organisations and people on Twitter to reach a global audience at the most relevant moments,” says Ardan Arac, Google’s Senior Product Manager, on Google’s blog.

“By deeply integrating Twitter’s real time content into Google search, we hope you find it easier than ever to explore your interests across both Twitter and Google,” Twitter said in a statement. For example, if a user were to search for “Sachin Tendulkar twitter” on Google, the search engine would show you Tendulkar’s official Twitter account, live Tweets and Trends on Tendulkar on Google’s timeline. The integration will give Google’s users a comprehensive search experience. Twitter, currently the most preferred platform for live Tweeting, will give Google the edge in terms of real time news at the users’ fingertips.

Twitter in an attempt to widen its search base, had last year made its archive accessible to customers through searches. The new partnership with Google is expected to help Twitter reach out to a wider audience and encourage Google’s huge user base to sign up on the social network. Google is by far, the largest search engine and Twitter’s move to be a presence online outside of its social media platform is a key part of Twitter’s growth strategy. This will enhance participation in the Twitter experience without having to sign up on the network.
