Telangana to curb Gandipet lake encroachment
Hyderabad: Telangana government has finally sprung into action to check encroachments within the FTL (full tank level) of Gandipet lake. Notices are being issued to those who constructed in FTL limits against norms under Irrigation Act, 1357, to clear the encroachments within 15 days or face criminal cases.
Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao will visit the spot on Sunday along with officials to take a look. A recent survey by irrigation department, Water Board and Ranga Reddy revenue department officials found huge encroachments. However, the issuing of notices first to those holding smaller pieces of land while leaving out those owning tens of acres there have caused a bit controversy. The notices issued are pertaining to encroachments ranging from as lower as 5 sq.yards to as higher as 1,777 sq.yards.
