Sudhakaran launches CPM’s organic farm

The party will grow vegetables in all 72 panchayats

Ambalappuzha: Ambalappuzha legislator and Communist Party of India (Marxist) state secretariat member G. Sudhakaran inaugurated the party’s organic farming campaign in Alappuzha on Saturday.

Though politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan was originally scheduled to launch the program, he was indisposed and the party cancelled all his engagements for three days since Thursday.

Mr Sudhakaran said the campaign, “Farming Kerala, Popular Intervention”, was aimed at “reducing consumption of inorganic vegetable”.

District Secretary Saji Cheriyan, who presided over the function, said the party would grow vegetables in all the 72 panchayats in the district and they would be ready for harvesting by Onam.

At the inaugural, saplings of over ten vegetables were in 1.5 acres of a private land at Mulakkuzha, near Chengannur here.

“The farming self-help groups in respective areas will take care of them,” Mr Cheriyan said. District panchayat president U. Prathibha Hari also attended the function.
