ISIT gets Roopesh, wife in 10-day custody
Kochi: The Additional Sessions Court (CBI/NIA) on Saturday remanded top Maoist leader Roopesh and his wife Shyna in 10-day custody of the Internal Security Investigation Team.
However, the court directed the ISIT not to torture them physically and mentally during the course of interrogation.
Additional Sessions Judge K.M. Balachandran, while sending the duo to police custody till June 2, also directed the ISIT to inform the schedule of interrogation to the couple’s counsel who would be present during such sessions.
The ISIT probing the case against the duo for arranging a hideout for Maoist central committee member Malla Raja Reddy and his wife Beecha Suganna at Perumbavoor in 2007 had filed a petition before the court seeking their custody for 15 days.
“While sending the couple in judicial custody, the court (CBI-I /NIA-II) had directed the authorities of district jail, Kakkanad, to provide medical assistance to Shyna. She has been suffering from back pain, dental infection and knee pain. She had also lost her specs when the police arrested her from Coimbatore. Now the court has directed the police to comply with the follow-up treatment for Shyna,” said counsel Thushar Nirmal Sarathy.
