Devendra Fadnavis bats for social media use to enhance govt's goodwill

Fadnavis advised party workers to stay away from corrupt practices

Kolhapur: Describing social media as a powerful tool to reach out to the masses, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today asked BJP workers to use technology wisely to enhance the goodwill of the government among people.

"The decisions and the initiatives of the government need to reach the people. For that, make good use of technology. Start WhatsApp (mobile messaging app) groups in all talukas and villages and apprise people of the work done by the government," Fadnavis said while addressing party workers here on last day of the BJP's state executive meet.

"Social media is no more constrained to cities. You need to make use of social media in small villages as well. Even the media today believes a lot in forwarded messages. So, forward the decisions of the government to people," he said.

Lauding the party's performance in the state Assembly election held last year, Fadnavis said no party has managed to win more than 100 seats in the last few decades.

"The battle has just begun now. Let opposition parties poke fun at you. Let them keep saying decisions won't get implemented. Dont get disheartened," he said.

Advising party workers to stay away from corrupt practices, Fadnavis asked them to use co-operative institutions and committees to work for the people.

"Stay away from corruption. Co-operative institutions and committees are meant for the benefit of the people. Remember, the government will take strong action against anybody indulging in corruption," Fadnavis said.

The Chief Minister alleged that the previous government (Congress-NCP) encashed the Contingency fund to buy helicopters for its leaders.

The BJP-led government has used money from the Contingency fund to help farmers who have been reeling under a severe financial crisis due to hailstorms and unseasonal rains, he added.
