PMO credibility restored by BJP-led NDA govt, says Finance Minister Arun Jaitley
New Delhi: Asserting that the BJP has emerged as the central pole of Indian politics, Union minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday said the BJP-led NDA government has restored the credibility, dignity and stature of the post of Prime Minister, unlike during the previous regime.
Taking potshots at the “dual power centre” during the Congress’ regime, Mr Jaitley said that the UPA had reduced the PM’s position by setting up a power centre outside the government, which had been reversed by the Narendra Modi government.
Mr Jaitley said that while inflation has been brought under control in the past one year, the global economy, the agrarian situation as well as domestic investments pose challenges to the Indian economy.
Mr Jaitley said minorities are feeling safe under Modi’s rule and the government has also made attempts to ensure that there is no social tension. “The last year has restored the credibility, dignity and stature of the Prime Minister’s Office. In this government, the last word belongs to the PM and that is how it should be,” he said.
