Aadhar will ‘empower’ you now
Getting power connection simplified by discom, Aadhaar details required
Visakhapatnam: Getting power connection has become an easy affair due to the efforts of EPDCL as instead of submitting a dozen documents along with a four page application, people can get a connection just by providing their Aadhaar card details and an ownership document along with a single page application. Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, EPDCL CMD R. Mutyala Raju said there are around 51.5 lakh power consumers across the five districts that come under the discom.
“EPDCL had received a total of 1,89,358 applications from all the call centres of the discom, of which 1,66,500 are for getting new connections. There are 1.79 lakh houses in the discom which were to be given power supply and by March 31, 2016, there would be no house in AP without power connection,” added Mr Raju.
Mr Raju also said an amount of Rs 120 crore has been sanctioned to the discom under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana to light up all homes in remote areas.
Answering a query on the status of underground cabling work in the city, the CMD said that MVP Colony has been identified to implement the World Bank sponsored project on pilot basis and the works will commence from August.
“The Detailed Project Report (DPR) has already been prepared and cleared by the Power Finance Corporation and MVP Colony was selected for the pilot project.” “The underground cabling work is disaster-proof and minimises power pilferages besides reducing maintenance work.”
“The estimated cost of the project is Rs 600 crore, of which the World Bank will fund Rs 400 crore and the balance will be provided by the state government and the discom,” Mr raju said. As part of the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana, EPDCL has identified 800 hamlets in Vizag Agency to be provided with power connection in the first phase and they will go for solar energy where they are unable to provide conventional power, Mr Raju added.
