Chennai: A 30-year-old casual labourer was arrested by the New Washermanpet police on Saturday for the alleged murder of his wife. The police said Vijay assaulted his wife while drunk, and banged her head against the wall, leading to her death on Friday night. A daily wage labourer, Vijay lived with his wife Divya (26) and two-year-old child at Varadappa Maestry street in New Washermanpet.
Police investigations revealed that the couple used to have frequent fights as the man came home drunk most often.On Friday, after one such argument, Vijay assaulted Divya, caught her by the hair and banged her head against the wall. She fell down unconscious, while Vijay went to sleep.
On Saturday morning, when he woke up, he found his wife lying unconscious and moved her to the Stanley medical college hospital where she was declared brought dead. The Washermanpet police, on information, registered a case and arrested Vijay after he confessed to have assaulted his wife after a fight. Further investigations are on.
