Special services at your doorstep

You don’t need to step out of your home to get a head massage or visit a lawyer any more
Whether it’s the traffic that’s keeping you off the roads, or your a newness in the city or the fact that you are just a regular couch potato, getting things done is now just a speedy click or phone call away. With a number of startups eager to make a mark, services – from legal advice and spas to beauty treatments, laundry, home-cooked meals and doctors are now at your beck and call and Bengalureans are happily lapping up the trend that gets these services to your doorstep!
With a watering hole and an eatery dotting every nook and corner of the city, food-based deliveries are an obvious hit. “My schedules are unpredictable and I don’t want to spend time trying to figure out when I can sneak some time out,” says Suhasini M, a media professional who picks her food from Foodpanda and monthly groceries from Bigbasket. “They also have a plethora of payment options on offer – meaning no midnight runs to the ATM,” she says, on why it is a popular choice.
These deliveries also include popular local haunts like Shivaji Military Hotel, whose biriyani sees throngs of people, making it impossible to jump the queue. “We felt like ordering in for lunch and in less than two hours, we dug into the delicacy at our doorstep,” says Priya Stephen, cofounder of Paw Delights who uses Istaari, a Whatsapp-based delivery service that helps you out with everything from laundry and bike washes to sourcing carpenters and electricians at fixed prices. With the work herd busy through the week and wanting to get much done over the weekend, “Navigating through the harrowing traffic is a nightmare and moreover you can book appointments online or over the phone,” says Prerana Das, who uses these apps for everything from spa treatments and beauticians to food and flowers.
“It all rose out of our personal pain points,” says Silus Reddy, cofounder of MyWash. He along with his fellow 25-year-olds struck gold with the laundry being dusted and delivered to your doorstep. With over 10,000 urban Bengalureans using the service for Rs. 19 a pop, “They can schedule when they want their laundry picked up and when they want it delivered,” he explains. Mobile legal advice is another thing that picks up pace. “The whole process was tedious and involved many visits to offices and brokers. We wanted to eliminate that,” says Gireesh Challa, founder of Notary Mama, an organisation that delivers everything from rental agreements and sales deeds to attestations and company registrations to your doorstep. It’s all about making life simple, the way it was meant to be lived.
