TRS defends decision to field fifth candidate

It was part of a strategy and dismissed allegations levelled against them by the Congress and TD
Hyderabad: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti on Friday defended its decision to field a fifth candidate in the MLC elections under MLAs quota. It said that it was part of a strategy and dismissed allegations levelled against them by the Congress and Telugu Desam. “It is a strategy. The TRS will win all the five seats,” Mr Sudhakar Reddy, a TRS MLC said.
In another development, the Telangana legislature secretary Dr Sadaram found that all the nominations were in order. He also said the nominated Anglo Indian MLA has voting rights in the MLC elections under MLA quota.
“The nominated MLA can cast his vote in the elections. If the TD legislators have any doubt on the voting rights of a nominated MLA or any other issue, they are free to approach the Election Commission of India rather than levelling baseless charges against us,” Mr Sudhakar Reddy added.
To another question, TRS leader Yadav Reddy said the Vemulawada MLA Chennamneni Ramesh has the right to cast his vote and dismissed TD’s objections against him being an NRI and citing an HC order. “The issue was propped up in the undivided AP and is not applicable anymore,” he added. When contacted, Dr Rajasadaram said he had sent the TD’s letter on the issue to the Election Commission for necessary action.
