WARANGAL: The heat wave continues to be oppressive for the fourth day in a row in Warangal district. The number of people falling prey to the sunstroke is increasing every day along with the temperature. The mercury level in the district on Friday touched 47°C throwing normal life out of gear. Twenty eight people died in the span of just four days in the district. The average temperature at various parts of the district is ranging from 44°C to 47°C. The heat near the coal belt area in Bhupalpally is quite unbearable with 47°C of temperature being registered here.
The heat is building up as early as 8 am with almost 36°C and is gradually increasing up to 47°C by afternoon. Because of the heat, the daily traffic has decreased considerably the Warangal-Hyderabad highway which is always abuzz with traffic is now giving a deserted look. Most public places and busy junctions fell silent as people are forced to stay indoors in the coziness of their homes.
On Friday, five deaths due to sunstroke were registered. A tiffin stall owner in Narsampet, Venkanna, 58, a daily wage worker in Raghunathpalli, Laxmi, 58, another worker Sammakka, 65, of Mangapet, Gunde Yadaiah, 58, of Guduru and Andhe Hanumaiah, 83, of Thorrur succumbed to the extreme heat conditions here.
