On big day, Yaduveer to don Sherwani by humble tailor
Mysuru: With the countdown beginning for the coronation of Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar as the 27th Maharaja of the Wadiyar dynasty on May 28, preparations are in full swing at Mysuru Palace for an event happening after 41 years.
The attire of the new heir for the historic moment is getting stitched by a tailor who hails from the family which prepared attire for the royal family at the cellar of Vishweswaraiah building in the heart of the city at K.R. Circle. This time it is going to be an orange coloured sherwani with gold and silver designs for Mr Yaduveer.
Forty-six-year-old Ramesh N. Laalige stitched the pink sherwani which Mr Yaduveer wore in the procession on the evening of the adoption Ceremony and has been chosen to stitch the coronation sherwani as well. Mr Ramesh a resident of Indiranagar here, is not a trained fashion designer but has been involved in stitching suits and sherwanis as part of the family profession.
Tailor Ramesh N. Laalige
He learnt the art from his father late Narayan Rao, nephew of late Lakshman Rao who stitched sherwanis for late scion Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar for his wedding and coronation along with Mr M.N. Padmaraj of Heavenly Tailors on Danvathri road here. The royal family has handed over four metres of pure silk cloth for the sherwani and two and a half metres for the pants to Mr Ramesh.
When asked if Mr Yaduveer had asked for a new pattern and if they had consulted a fashion designer, Mr Ramesh said, “It is a traditional dress. They have given us the sherwani of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar and want the same pattern without any change”. Ramesh has already given the sherwani for a trial to Mr Yaduveer and will be delivering the attire to the royal family on Saturday.
