Corporation school toppers share tips for success

Toppers said completing every day’s portion and morning study helped them score well

Chennai: Noting that going for private coaching ( tuition) is a waste of time and money, Chennai corporation school toppers say completing every day’s portion the same day and morning study helped them score well. Close on the heels of the plus-2 results, the first three toppers in the city are girls. Also, the overall pass percentage of 70 Chennai higher secondary schools rose by nearly 1.5 per cent than that of last year.

Niveditha (491) of Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School in Maduvankarai, Guindy, topped among the 70 corporation higher secondary schools says, “Studying in the morning, when the mind is fresh will not only stay in memory, but also helps in understanding the concepts better”, adds the daughter of A. Jayakumar, a street vendor, who sells fancy articles. Niveditha plans to do software engineering.

Completing portions then and there will give satisfaction, notes D. Kousalya (490) of Chennai girls higher secondary school at Saidapet, second topper. She says she did not study beyond 8 p.m. everyday. “I don’t study more than two to three hours, every time I take a book. But, I study everyday,” says M. Jaya (who has secured 489) of Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School, Market Street in Perambur.

The headmistress of Chennai girls higher secondary school at Saidapet, Laila says, “The government programmes like distributing evening snacks gave extra energy to the children to concentrate on the lessons during the special classes in the evening.” Teachers were dedicated to their work.

As usual, girl students outnumbered boys with the pass per centage of 94.98 per cent as against 88.90 per cent by boys. The overall pass percentage of the 70 Chennai higher secondary schools in the city achieved 92.15 per cent.
