Tank Bund closed from today

The road will be dug up for the installation of a pipeline

Hyderabad: The arterial road at Tank Bund will be closed from May 22 till May 31, and the closure may be extended further if required. The road is being closed to facilitate the laying of 2,375-mm diametre MS trunk sewer main as part of “beautification and purification” of the Hussainsagar.

Road cutting works will be done between Karbala Maidan and the Sailing Club (near Buddha Bhavan Island). No traffic will be permitted on Upper Tank Bund from the Ambedkar statue area towards the Sailing Club.

The Water Board, with a budget of Rs 58.96 crore, is laying a trunk sewer pipe line near Saidaniamma’s tomb to divert sewerage of the Kukatpally nala. The road will be dug up for the installation of a pipeline. Untreated sewerage from Kukatpally and Balanagar area will be released into the Kalasiguda nala instead of the Hussainsagar lake from July onwards. The work is likely to be extended by 15 days.

With the installation of the pipeline, nearly 350 million litres of sewage and industrial waste from Kukatpally nala would be diverted downstream through the 4 kms Trunk Sewer Line per day.

Currently, the polluted water from Kukatpally nala is released into the lake, while the water from three other nalas (Picket, Balkapur and Banjara ) is treated at sewerage treatment plants near NTR Marg Road and Minister’s Road. The Hyderabad traffic police has released a traffic diversion plan.
