Rs 2 lakh ex gratia to family of dead
The accident took place just three minutes from the destination
Khammam: The bus driver applied brake while making way for a car coming from the opposite direction and also to avoid hitting an autorickshaw in front. The front wheels skidded in the loose soil on the side of the road and the bus swerved to the left. It then flipped over thrice, falling on the approach road.
The first victim Sravarni, who was sitting behind the driver’s seat, died on the spot. The accident took place just three minutes from the destination. The condition of six of the injured is said to be serious. They are Ms Sameera, Ms Rani, Ms Vani, Ms Padma, Ms Asli and Ms Gayatri. They were shifted to a Khammam hospital for better treatment.
Minister for transport Mr P. Mahender Reddy ordered an enquiry into the bus accident in Bhadrachalam on Thursday. “It is unfortunate and the government is taking all necessary steps to extend assistance to the injured,” he said.
Mr Reddy flew to Bhadrachalam along with Minister for Roads and Buildings, Mr T. Nageswara Rao, and visited the injured. He also announced Rs 2 lakh ex gratia to the families of the two victims who had died. He added that Rs 5,000 would be given to each of the injured and the expenses of the treatment would be borne by the RTC.
The two ministers also visited the accident spot with RTC officials. Mr Reddy said that the health officials had been asked to extend better treatment to the injured, particularly the six critical.
