Power matters, not BJP chief post: BS Yeddyurappa
HASSAN: Stating that he was not keen to takeover as the new chief of the state unit of BJP, former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Thursday said his main objective would be to bring the party back to power in Karnataka.
Criticising the state government while talking to media persons here, he said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his team has done precious little in terms of development of the state during the last two years. Mr Siddaramaiah has spent all his time announcing new programmes but did not implement them.
For example, the Agriculture Price Commission came into effect two years ago, but nothing substantial was effected for farmers nor was any progress achieved by tourism minister R.V. Deshpande in tourism sector. “The state government’s share in Anna Bhagya scheme is minimal while it is the Union Government which contributes about 95 per cent for the scheme by supplying food grains,” he added.
On Governor Vajubhai Vala’s decision to reject names recommended by the state government for various posts in Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), Mr Yeddyurappa demanded an apology from KPCC president Dr G Parameshwar for his comments that “suitable” steps would be taken against the Governor at an appropriate time. Dr Parameshwar was “intimidating” the Governor, he said adding that he was only discharging his duties as per the Constitution.
Charging Congress leaders with “misleading” people about the Land Acquisition (Amendment) ordinance, Mr Yeddyurappa said the move was to acquire land for completion of long-pending projects in sectors such as the railways, irrigation and national highways. Mr Yeddyurappa said the BJP government in New Delhi had completed one-year in office without any allegations or scams unlike the previous government which faced several scams.
