Rites report on Greenfield airport within two days

Government hopeful of getting more clarity on extent of land required in couple of days
Visakhapatnam: HRD minister Ganta Srinivas Rao said clarity on extent of land required to establish the proposed Greenfield international airport at Bhogapuram will emerge after Rites, which is studying the project, submits its report.
Mr Srinivas Rao reviewed issues related to Bhogapuram airport with the collectors of Vizianagaram and Vizag on Wednesday. This comes after a stiff resistance from the farmers of Bhogapuram to the proposed airport which, as per initial estimates, needs around 15,000 acres.
“Earlier we had decided to establish this airport in 10,000 acres but now clarity on the extent of land required will emerge only after Rites submits its report. Rites is preparing a report on the length of the runway and other technical aspects of the proposed airport. It will submit the report in the next two days. The report will be discussed at the coming cabinet meeting,” said the HRD minister.
Mr Srinivas Rao added that a decision would be taken on the extent of private land to be acquired as per the report. He said, “Government will not do injustice to the farmers if their land is acquired.”
