Karnataka IAS circle ensures creation of 18 additional chief secretary posts
Bengaluru: Taking advantage of Union Public Service Commission(UPSC) rules, Karnataka IAS circle has ensured the creation of 18 additional chief secretary posts now.
Earlier, the state had six additional chief secretaries who would handle special duties outside the realm of various departments. Now, the number of such secretaries has gone up so much that they are virtually performing the duties of secretaries and principal secretaries, heading individual departments.
As a result, the IAS officers circle has succeeded in creating more white elephants in the state. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a senior bureaucrat explained that the UPSC constitutes a committee to revise cadre rules once in four years and frames the guidelines to promote IAS officers.
"IAS officers in the state convinced UPSC to create 18 ACS posts. Earlier, the number of ACSes was restricted to six in proportion to the total number of IAS officers in state. And these ACSes would be posted in the Vidhana Soudha secretariat. With the number of ACSes going up to 18, nine ACSes can work in Vidhana Soudha secretariat," the source explained.
