Danam Nagender quits as GHCC chief
Hyderabad: Group politics in the TS Congress came to the fore with Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee president Danam Nagender submitting his resignation from the party post, criticising the selection of Akula Lalitha as candidate for the lone MLC seat.
“The selection of party candidate is totally wrong, I cannot continue as the City Congress chief. I have resigned from the post and conveyed my decision to AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh,” Mr Nagender told this newspaper on Wednesday night.
He said there was no planning in selection of MLC candidate, though the party was facing a major challenge from the TRS in the GHMC elections. He added he will not quit the party.
“First of all D. Srinivas is a senior leader in the party, under his leadership the party came back to power twice. He might have lost consecutive elections but he is a trusted leader in the party. He should have been given another chance to become MLC' Danam said.
He said, atleast former Minister Ponnala Laxmaiah who was removed from PCC Chief post without even serving a notice should have been another choice for the candidature, but unfortunately he was also ignored.
'If defeat in last general elections was the criteria for not considering the names of leaders, highcommand should have selected former Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy as MLC candidate. She was denied ticket last time, if winning GHMC polls is important for party, Sabita who is a fighter should have been selected due to her clout in Rangareddy dt which also falls under GHMC' Danam said.
He warned ' if this trend of not consulting anyone, not taking ground realities into consideration there is no point to work for this party, I will not resign, but will remain in party' Danam added.
