CM Oommen Chandy assures Srividya’s brother of police probe
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Late actor Srividya’s brother M. L. V. Sankar Raman met Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for a second time in three years on Wednesday seeking action against Kerala Congress (B) legislator K. B. Ganesh Kumar for not executing her will.
Mr Chandy assured him and his wife Ms. Vijayalakshmy that he would ask the director general of police to investigate and take appropriate action. The couple also met home minister Ramesh Chennithala and sought his intervention.
On the basis of a public interest litigation filed by A. P. Ravindranathan, Lok Ayukta has asked Mr Kumar to appear before the court on Friday.
Srividya’s only sibling, Raman, 63, awaiting justice for the last three years after petitioning the CM, says his two sons are yet to get Rs 10 lakh mentioned in her will nine years ago.
Sreevidya had passed away of spine cancer on Oct 19, 2006. When they met Mr Chandy, he told them that three years ago, Mr Kumar had denied it after he received their first complaint.
“Unfortunately Mr. Kumar had denied knowing anything about this. So I will ask the DGP to probe and you will definitely get justice,” he told the couple who were in tears.
They said the late actor acquired major wealth after selling off her prime property at Mahalingapuram in Chennai where she won a 15 year court battle against her former husband George Thomas.
“This particular property at Mahalingapuram was sold off for several crores. She invested the proceeds in several properties in Kerala but we are in the dark as to where all they are located,” Mr Raman told DC.
“She also had another 1250 sq ft apartment in Chennai’s prime location which is being used by someone else now. Apart from all these, she owned a home, at Vattiyoorkavu which is being maintained in by the namesake MLV Srividya Charitable Trust”.
The siblings with an age difference of 1.5 years were close to each other but unfortunately he was never informed of her illness. Due to ill health, he could not pursue his complaint to the CM for the last three years.
Currently, he is finding it difficult to repay the educational loan of Rs 35 lakh he took for his two son’s education.
In a four page will, Srividya, who was then a resident of ‘Sai’ at Elipode Road at Vattiyoorkavu in Thiruvananthapuram on 17 August 2006 had appointed Ganesh Kumar as the executor of the will.
Accordingly 8 cents of land and house, 1250 sq. ft. Swamy apartment at Chennai, Rs 15, 50, 000 bank deposit, 580 gram gold ornaments, 1.5 kg silver, household articles, Santro car and post office savings of Rs 3 lakh were the major assets belonging to Srividya.
