Charity begins at home: Shabbir Ali

Mr Ali said the conversion of the Camp Office into a housing project would be an easy decision

HYDERABAD: The Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Shabbir Ali demanded Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to part with the 14 acres of his official residence, rather than take away the OU land for housing the poor.

Mr Ali said the CM is living in a bungalow in three acres of land in Begumpet and he is further acquiring a 11.5- acre property of IAS Officers Association. “Why does he need so much of a space for his family whereas a 1,000 square yard would do? Rest of the land can be used to build houses for the poor,” Mr Ali said.

He said while the last Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan stayed in 6-acre King Koti palace, Mr Rao wants to live in 14- acres. Mr Ali said the conversion of the Camp Office into a housing project would be an easy decision. “He can begin the construction in an hour. Having been a minister in-charge of Hyderabad from 2004-2009, I can mark 10 such places which could be used for the housing. However, Mr Rao should show the way,” he said.
