Bengaluru: Central division police raid passport office, arrest tout
BENGALURU: The Central Division police on Wednesday conducted a surprise raid on the Passport Office on Lalbagh Road and caught a tout, who was luring people promising them that he would expedite the process, while three others managed to escape.
After a series of complaints, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Sandeep Patil paid a surprise visit to the passport office and caught hold of one of the touts.
Mr Patil said that the touts, who hung around the Passport Office, looked for applicants would are desperate to get their passports. The touts would flaunt their contacts and tell the applicants that with the help of their contacts the applications would move fast. They also promised the applicants they would get the police verification done in a jiffy, he said.
While three touts managed to escape, the police arrested one of them and brought him to the station for detailed questioning. “We have got definite clues about the escaped touts and will arrest them soon,” Mr Patil said, adding that the probe is on to ascertain whether the touts have any links with the staff.
