Lucknow: Maggi, the “two-minute noodle” that has turned into a staple food for the young generations, may face a ban in Uttar Pradesh since it has been found to have dangerous levels of monosodium glutamate.
Maggi noodles came under the scanner when samples collected from various parts of Uttar Pradesh were sent for testing and the results showed a high level of monosodium glutamate (MSG) and lead.
The result showed that Maggi contains 17 parts per million lead, while the permissible limit is only 0.01 ppm. According to reports, the Lucknow Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) has initiated an inquiry into the matter. FSDA assistant commissioner Vijay Bahadur Yadav said, “We have tested Maggi samples at Kolkata’s referral laboratory. The test results show that there are added MSG and excess of lead.”
