While #salmankhan was trending on social media earlier this month, Screen Patti, a YouTube channel run by Abhishek Yadav, Prem Mistry, Badri Chavan, Jasmeet Singh Bhatia, Raghav Subbu, Sahil Verma, Harman Wadala and Amrit Raj Gupta, realised that no one on YouTube were openly talking about the man behind the phenomenon.
They then decided to make the most of this opportunity, despite being aware that any controversial video against Salman Khan was bound to get them in trouble. While they did receive hate mails from angry fans, Save the Bhai was not only shared by many national websites, but also received 2 lakh hits within two hours. The parody video was launched on April 27 and it mockingly defends Salman Khan for his actions. “As we all know, the people of India have suffered too much in the recent past — Global Warming, ISIS, war against drugs… We are here to discuss about something which is far more important than cross-border terrorism and your own goddamn career — Bhai’s verdict,” the narration goes on.
“We actually had over eight different ideas on Salman Khan, there was one based on a religious chant, but that would surely have gotten us killed,” says Amrit with a laugh. This is the group’s third video, one that not only brought them national fame, but more than triple the amount of subscribers.
