Agree with Katrina Kaif?

When is the right time to get married’, has everyone talking about pressures they face
Mumbai: Riding high on the wave of women’s empowerment is Titan Raga’s latest ad, “When is the right time to get married” (#HerLifeHerChoices) starring Katrina Kaif.
In the 45-second video, Katrina talks about the importance of the right time to getting married. “Don’t get married because all your friends are married or because your ex-boyfriend is getting married... get married when you find the one who deserves your time,” says the actress in the ad that pays tribute to the choice of a woman.
Uploaded just a month ago, the video has got more than 15 lakh hits with viewers commenting how the video “talks about real empowerment and the kind of advice you need nowadays”.
Closer home, people from the city hold the same opinion and agree that the video indeed hits the mark. “The ad is brilliant and totally relatable. But the truth is that’s the kind of society one lives in, where there is so much pressure to get things done in a certain manner. I can relate to that personally because I got married at a very early age, at 21. I don’t regret it, but I did learn quite a lot of things. Even now I keep getting asked by almost everyone as to when I am getting married,” says badminton champ Jwala Gutta, who goes on to narrate an incident that took place years ago. “My friend was 18 and her father was getting her married. When I asked her father why he was getting her married at such a young age, he replied, ‘Girls from good households get married at this age’.”
But times are changing; especially for educated women, as they are more particular about such decisions. It’s very important to not let society dictate how you should lead your life.” Team India captain Mithali Raj feels the same. “People in India forget that questions like ‘when are you getting married’ are intrusive,” says Mithali, “But my family has always supported me.”
Actress Sanjjanna Galrani uses humour to ward off such questions. “I tell them I still feel like a kid myself and just laugh it off. I will get married when I want to have babies,” says Sanjjanna. Niveditha Murthy, a working professional from the city, says that the ad addresses what she and her friends have thought for a long time. “I’ve always believed that I would find my one true love and that I would want to get married,” she says. Artist Priyanka Aelay too believes that one should wait for the right time. She says, “Instead of marrying because of superstitious reasons, it should be when you feel a spark. There should be something intense about the relationship.”
