Triumphant return: Jayalalithaa to be sworn in as CM on May 23
Chennai: After a gap of eight months, AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa will make her first public appearance, on May 22. A statement from the party headquarters on Tuesday said Jayalalithaa would garland the statues of MGR, Anna and Periyar along the arterial Anna Salai on Friday. Party sources also hinted that Ms Jayalalithaa is likely to assume charge as the Chief Minister on May 23.
A few high profile Union ministers are expected to attend Saturday’s event.

A series of meetings was held at the AIADMK party headquarters on Tuesday in preparation for Friday’s public events. Crowd management as well as the kind of reception to be given to the party supremo on her first public appearance after a 8-month hiatus was discussed.
The district secretaries of the Chennai region also held detailed discussions with the zonal and divisional secretaries.

“We are eagerly waiting to see Amma at close quarters as it has been several weeks now. As usual, a special aarathi and distribution of sweets will be organised near (Poes) garden”, said Corporation councillor S. Anjulakshmi of north Chennai.
